As a student at Milne's Free School, Ashley Mackintosh was awarded the first bursary from the University of Aberdeen. His subsequent career at the University was outstanding, graduating with an MA First Class Honours in Classics and Mathematics and a Gold Medal from the Town Council for the most distinguished graduate of the year. He continued his studies at King's College, Cambridge, this time in the field of medicine. During World War I he became a Lieutenant-Colonel attached to the First Scottish General Hospital and consulting Physician to the Scottish Command. In 1919 he became Honorary Physician to the King's Household in Scotland. Ashley Mackintosh did not forget his other Alma Mater, Milne's Insitution. He served as a Governor for over 20 years and created 'The Mackintosh Dux Prize' which continues to be awarded to this day.
